Position Objective

The Accountant is a key role in the Company and will be involved in all day to day aspects of financial operations including but not limited to assisting with the financial statement preparation, costing, analysis, one of AR or AP processing, ERP development and meeting regulatory requirements.

This individual will have a background that includes post-secondary business education with relevant work experience. Using his/her skills and experience this individual will effectively use strong communication and problem-solving skills to help take the Operations department to the next level in professionalism and execution. A successful Accountant will be familiar with full cycle Accounting, having a strong grasp of numbers, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy and ensuring that deadlines are met. A “roll-up” the sleeves mentality is required.

The Accountant joins a small administrative team that provides accurate, timely and reliable reporting and services to all team members within Powerhouse Controls as well as to external parties.

Key Accountabilities

Activity A: Financial and Accounting

  • Assist with preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements and legal entity statements
  • Preparation of month end journal entries
  • Prepare and review all Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review and prepare of all intercompany eliminations and reconciliations
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the general and subledgers
  • Assisting evaluating and calculating revenue and COGS according to percentage of completion methodology of recognizing revenues and costs
  • Processing of one of AR or AP and ownership of that function
  • Cash forecasting
  • Booking all accruals
  • Compliance with GAAP and banking covenants
  • Assisting with Month-end Management Reporting
  • Some Tax and compliance administrative work
  • Review of AR, AP, GL, Purchasing & Timekeeping reports for accuracy & integrity
  • Evaluate processes and come up with better processes within Job scope
  • Helping improve the job costing capabilities of the department and relevant reports
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 2-4 years as an Accountant or similar experience
  • Post-secondary education in accounting and/or working towards the CPA designation is required
  • Experience and strong aptitude for using various software platforms (NetSuite preferred)
  • Experience with full cycle accounting including month end reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Experience with foreign currency transactions and translation
  • Financial statement consolidation experience is desirable but not essential
  • Skilled at solving problems including identifying inconsistencies in data and information
  • Strong organizational skills with an efficiency and effectiveness focus
  • Very strong detail and accuracy orientation
  • Exceptional Excel skills
  • Strong ability to work independently and within a team with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Adhere to a high degree of confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment

Working Conditions

  • Working in an office environment
  • Occasional lifting required
  • Occasional travel required
  • Monday to Friday, 40 hours/ week
  • May involve working from home with some frequency as mandated by company
