Controls System Designer – Co-op (Winter Term, January to April 2022)

Cambridge, ON

Full-time (40 hours/week)

Key Accountabilities

  • Programming and troubleshooting of PLCs (machine/safety logic)
  • Programming and troubleshooting of HMIs (user interface)
  • Programming and troubleshooting of VFDs (motor control)
  • Hardware design (component selection and creation of schematics)
  • Factory acceptance testing (verifying functionality before we ship to the customer)
  • Commissioning (final testing at the customer’s facility)
  • Various other tasks (as assigned by your Team Lead)

Note: The key accountabilities are not an exhaustive list and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a related program (Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer, etc.)
  • Strong desire to learn how industrial machines work
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to learn new things quickly and apply that knowledge to real-world applications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.)

Assets

  • Hands-on experience with PLC/HMI/VFD programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, GE, etc.)
  • Familiarity with control system design software (ePlan, Electric P8, etc.)
  • Past experience working in a manufacturing facility (automotive, food, etc.)
  • Knowledge of application development programming languages (VBA, C#, SQL, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle for professional use
