Procurement and Supply Chain Specialist

Cambridge, ON

Full-time (40 hours/week)

Position Objective

The Procurement Specialist, as a hands-on role, is responsible for ordering all product for the Powerhouse group of companies.  In addition to product procurement this individual will be responsible for the entire supply chain and process improvement including but not limited to new vendor selection, product quality, pricing negotiations, vendor partnerships as well as improving the overall procurement process.  One key success factor for this role, amongst others, will result in stakeholders embracing the importance of the newly improved purchasing function and improved interdepartmental collaboration.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Generate purchase orders as required by Engineers and other staff and order the required goods with select vendors
  • Manage the order process with internal and external stakeholders to ensure tight deadlines are met
  • Calculate material requirements based on order demand
  • Issue all purchase orders, releases, and rescheduling material for production needs
  • Track receipts and expedite and resolve supply issues
  • Maintain direct relationships with all suppliers to negotiate pricing, payment, and supply terms for both direct and indirect purchases
  • Track inventory levels and consumption
  • Manage, collaborate, and communicate the delivery schedule to meet tight deadlines with Engineering staff and others
  • Manage international shipping and related documentation (NAFTA, Customer and Borders, Duties and Taxes, Bill of Lading, etc.)
  • Contact potential suppliers, perform reference checks, issue non-disclosure agreements, and issue, review, and evaluate quotes
  • Maintain all costing information and establish a regular cost review process
  • Improve Vendor performance in terms of Time, Quality and Cost
  • Maintain item and vendor masters on Netsuite
  • Create and hold other departments to account for best purchasing practices
  • Improve upon existing purchasing processes including NetSuite process improvement
  • Negotiate with vendors whilst reviewing and finalizing supply contracts
  • Effectively manage and monitor programs through development of robust plans, schedules, change control, and risk/opportunity closure to meet budgets.
  • Maintain current price lists
  • Develop and support process for selecting the suppliers and subcontractors for a wide variety of goods, works and services as requested by operations
  • Generate Vendor Corrective Measures when required
  • Create and maintain approved Vendor lists
  • Developing and maintaining documentation for key processes and procedures
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of parts (where required)
  • Work closely with Accounting, Applications, Manufacturing, and Engineering
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Note: The key accountabilities are not an exhaustive list and other duties may be assigned as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in Purchasing or Supply Chain role in a highly technical environment
  • Excellent understanding of electrical components as required in the automation and drives industry.
  • Technical background or equivalent industry experience preferred
  • P.P. or SCMP designation asset
  • Superior communication skills in all facets
  • Exceptional Problem solving and organizational skills
  • Strong Presentation skills
  • Strong collaboration and influencing capabilities to develop robust processes and move the purchasing department to best in class practices
  • Ability to work in a high pressure/high demand environment
  • Expert understanding of procurement and supply chain process
  • Engineering/supply chain/procurement Degree or Diploma
  • Intermediate to Advanced level of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using NetSuite preferred
  • Strong understanding of vendor contracts
  • Negotiating skills, composure under pressure
  • Experience in cost analysis and reporting
