Solar Maintenance Technician — Part Time Position

Position Objective

Reporting to the Vice President, the Solar Maintenance Technician is responsible for all technical solar work. Powerhouse Solar Ltd. has installed many industry leading Solar PV Tracking systems throughout the province of Ontario that are remotely monitored by our centralized monitoring system.  Powerhouse Solar continues to provide remote support, on-site service and maintenance for these systems.

Solar Maintenance Technicians at Powerhouse Solar are key representatives of Powerhouse Solar and visit our customer sites to perform maintenance work on their solar trackers.


Key Accountabilities

  • Annual maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, repairs, testing and related activities for Solar PV tracking systems located throughout Ontario.
  • Required to maintain detailed service records and reports and communicate status and findings to the Vice President in a timely manner.
  • Tools will be provided by Powerhouse Solar, and you will be responsible caring for all tools.

Note: The key accountabilities are not an exhaustive list and other duties may be assigned as needed.


Qualifications

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and possess good time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A valid driver’s license with the ability to travel throughout Ontario.
  • Must be able to maneuver a pickup truck towing a trailer. Vehicle will be provided by Powerhouse Solar.
  • General Computer skills: Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, & Outlook. Use of custom applications
  • Understanding of computer networks, routers, switches, & WiFi networks
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical circuits.
  • Use of hand tools, wrenches, screwdrivers
  • Understanding of grid connected Solar PV systems is beneficial

working conditions

  • The work environment includes working outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year and requires lifting objects up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Some work is performed on a ladder or an Aerial Work Platform (training will be provided).
  • Regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching, and crouching.
  • Must have command of at least the following senses: sight, hearing, and touch.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from near to far.
  • This is a part time position – Fall & winter typically 12-16 hours per week, Spring and Summer typically 20-30 hours per week
